Introduction

Why do we choose to travel to Hong Kong

A family reunion between me, my wife, and our daughter spend 3 days and 3 nights together.

Background information from Wikipedia -

Hong Kong[7] (Chinese: 香港) is a special administrative region of the People's Republic of China. Situated on China's south coast and enclosed by the Pearl River Delta and South China Sea,[8] it is renowned for its expansive skyline and deep natural harbour. With land mass of 1,104 km2 (426 sq mi) and a population of seven million people, Hong Kong is one of the most densely populated areas in the world.[9] The city's population is 95% ethnic Chinese and 5% from other groups.[10]

Hong Kong became a colony of the British Empire after the First Opium War (1839–1842). Originally confined to Hong Kong Island, the colony's boundaries were extended in stages so as to include the Kowloon PeninsulaNew Territories by 1898. It was occupied by the Japanese during the Pacific War, after which the BritishChina regained sovereignty.[16][17] The Basic Law stipulates that Hong Kong shall enjoy a "high degree of autonomy" in all matters except foreign relations and military defence.[18] and the resumed control until 1997, when

16:00 hrs, ready to get out from our home 134 Soi Aree Samphan 5, in Bangkok.

Airport limousine picked us at 16:00 hrs The new Toyota Camry, used CNG or LPG.

The back trunk was half occupied by the CNG tank, cannot hold 3 mid-sized luggage pieces – placing one at the front seat. So all 3 big people had to sit at the back row seat. However it was ok, Much better than regular taxi, which will be too small for the transportation to the Suvarnabhumi Airport.

The driver is polite and concern about doing his duty.

chauffeur in uniform, with mineral water, and cold towels

For 3 persons, and 3 pieces of luggage from the HKIA to the Mandarin Oriental Hotel, Hong Kong at HKD 800, or around 2450 baht, for a round trip of 3 persons, good deal.

A chauffeured Mercedes S Class, newest model, with cold tower, water served in the limousine, quite nice.

The Role of iPhone

I used iPhone not as a mobielphone, for I did not apply for roaming services and not using it for Internet connection via Wifi, for I did not want to pay HKD 150 or 600 Thai baht per day. But I used iPhone for recording matters I should recorded while traveling. I learned that if without some memo, I would forgot all we have been doing, including information about time and places.

To provide more information about Hong Kong International Airport just a little bit. From Wikipedia -

Hong Kong International Airport (IATA: HKG, ICAO: VHHH) is the main airport in Hong Kong. It is colloquially known as Chek Lap Kok Airport (赤鱲角機場), because it was built on the island of Chek Lap Kokland reclamation, and also to distinguish it from its predecessor, the closed Kai Tak Airport. by

The airport opened for commercial operations in 1998, replacing Kai Tak, and is an important regional trans-shipment centre, passenger hub and gateway for destinations in Mainland China (with over 40 destinations) and the rest of Asia. Despite a relatively short history, Hong Kong International Airport has won seven Skytrax World Airport Awards in just ten years[1][2].

HKIA also operates one of the world's largest passenger terminal buildings and operates twenty-four hours a day. The airport is operated by the Airport Authority Hong Kong and is the primary hub for Cathay Pacific, Dragonair, Hong Kong Express Airways, Hong Kong Airlines, Air Hong Kong (cargo) and Asia Jet (private). Flights are operated by roughly 90 airlines to over 150 cities across the globe, and in 2008 it was the 12th busiest airport worldwide in terms of passenger throughput, registering 47,857,746[3]. HKIA is also an important contributor to the Hong Kong economy, with 60,000 people employed at the airport.

In 2008, it was the second busiest airport in the world in terms of cargo traffic, handling 3,660,901 tons of cargo[4].

Mandarin Oriental Group

In the beginning, I did not realize that the Mandarin Oriental Hong Kong is a hotel under the Mandarin Oriental Hotel Group, which also the owner of the Mandarin Oriental Hotel in Bangkok.

Mandarin Oriental Hotel Group (MOHG), a member of the Jardine Matheson Group, is an international hotel investment and management group with luxury hotels, resorts and residences in Asia, Europe and the Americas[1]. The group regularly receives awards for its exemplary service and management, as well as for the spas and restaurants located at many of their hotels and resorts[2].

Mandarin Oriental, Hong Kong opened in 1963 and remains a flagship property in Mandarin Oriental Hotel Group. The Forbes Five-Star hotel, located in Central, Hong Kong Island, has 502 guestrooms and suites with views of Victoria Harbor and the surrounding cityscape. The property features 10 bars and restaurants, including the Michelin-starred Pierre restaurant from Pierre Gagnaire, and one of three Forbes Five-Star spas in Hong Kong[10][11].

Arriving Hong Kong

24:25 hrs arrived at Mandarin Oriental, Hong Kong. Instead of doing business at the reception counter, we were lead directly to our room and the check-in process followed with the hotel personnel. Quite nice for we were quite tired, and it is about time we all will have to go to bed.

During the New Year season, all the rooms were fully booked, but we get an extra bed put in our room. So all 3 of our family members stayed in one room, quite a family reunion outside of our home, 134 Soi Aree Samphan 5, Bangkok.
